What's new
1.7.0 2026-10-26
- **Curio comes with Ratchet.** Curio, the app that keeps your Claude artifacts in a cabinet of folders and labels, now ships inside Ratchet. Ratchet puts it in your Applications folder on its first launch and keeps it up to date. It can show artifacts from more than one Claude account.
- **Workspaces, redone.** One window: your open goals down the side, in the goal tree's order, with search (⌘F, or just start typing) and folding. The chosen goal's station is on the right, in Ratchet's own look, and every change saves itself.
- **Breadcrumbs.** Pick Curio artifacts for a goal from a Cabinet pane beside it. They open last, on top, when you switch to that goal, so the first thing you see is where you left off. When you put a goal down, Ratchet asks where you stopped and what's next, and Torque updates its Breadcrumb for you. It asks for your OK the first few times.
- **Collected.** Drop or paste links, text and pictures into a goal's workspace. Links become cards with the page's title, description and picture, and you can rename them. Text becomes a sticky note in one of six colours. These are kept for reference and never opened by Open.
- **Force MEP.** Every so often (Settings › Focus), Workspaces holds you on a few neglected goals until each has its station set.
- **Claude Code up front.** An agents bar tops the dropdown, Meanwhile is offered after 25 seconds, and Meanwhile can start a new goal as the side quest.
- **A dashboard that's easier to get around:** a section rail, sections that fold, and your score through the day against the day before. Torque's brief is on top, with short suggestion cards.
- **Native windows everywhere.** The modal, dashboard, Settings and Workspaces all have the Mac's own traffic lights. Settings is a window of its own, with Light and Dark appearance.
- **Details:**
- goal titles have no length limit, and a title that's cut short shows in full on hover;
- a lone `#mep` is a whole title, and `/` works like `#` for tags;
- the dropdown grows to fit a sheet you open;
- the goal search sits under the top bar.
1.6.9 2026-10-23
- **Race yourself, clearly.** Under the score, a band shows today against your own days at this same time, counted in minutes of real work. Behind your usual is a soft rose, ahead a soft green; the gap from your usual to you fills in as you work, and your friends appear as small initials (even on older versions of Ratchet). One line says where you stand: "Ahead of 60% of your days", or "38 more minutes of work to reach your usual".
- **The dropdown on macOS glass.** The menu-bar dropdown is frosted and translucent, with cards floating on it. It opens exactly down to your running task's controls; everything else is a scroll away. No tiny text: what's left is readable at a glance.
- **The popup during a task is a floating panel:** no title bar, rounded, with its own ✕ (Esc works too). It no longer fades or resizes in slow motion, and it's gone the instant you answer "Still on it?".
- **Tags as you wrote them.** #tags show where you typed them, # and all, and are highlighted live as you type.
- **Tidier controls.** Sync, Workspaces and Dashboard are icons in the top bar. Boost is a button beside Add and Queue, where you spend it. "Settle N sessions · a unanswered, p parked" has its own row. Frontier is a checklist: tap the ring when it's done.
- **Details:** prettier checkboxes, dropdowns and focus rings; icons in the ⋯ menu; Do it now as ▶; Collapse all keeps Scheduled and Finished today in view.
1.6.8 2026-10-23
- **Race yourself.** Under the score, a band shows today against your own last 28 days at this same time of day, with your usual in the middle, and your friends as small markers against their own days. The public dashboard has both views, Absolute (the four bands) and Relative.
- **A calmer top.** The score is centred over its band with one short line under it. What's unanswered or parked is one "N to settle" link. Sync is a small ↻ unless it's stale or you're offline.
- **Frontier as a checklist.** Tap the ring when it's done; a small ▸ starts it. Amounts line up, parts hang under their item, and the parts of the day are icons (sunrise, sun, moon, clock).
- **Side quests are full sessions:** Done, Park, Distracted and Break it down all work, and however one ends, the agent's task comes back. The card says how long you've been on it and where you're going back to.
- **Goals:** Collapse all / Expand all in the heading. A pinned Dashboard icon sits beside Workspaces in the top bar; Groceries moved into ⋯.
- **Type and size:** a serif only for what you're doing and writing; everything else stays in the system font. The score is set in SF Pro Rounded. The menu-bar dropdown is a little wider and a little shorter, and the icons are a size up. While a task runs, the popup window fits the task instead of filling the screen.
1.6.7 2026-10-23
- **A snappier modal.** What you press shows at once; the cloud's answer follows in the background and only corrects it if it disagrees. Goal changes show straight away too, and the goals list itself is about five times faster to build.
- **Hashtags instead of slash prefixes.** Type `#` anywhere in a title for the list of tags, and add as many as you like ("Fix the popup #rdev #lsd"). Old "RDEV: …" titles still count as tagged. With several tags, a tag that earns points wins over one that doesn't, and Copy shows if any of the tags carries a prompt.
- **Meanwhile you can find.** The running task's card has a Meanwhile button. The shelf can connect Claude Code for you and lets you browse the whole goal tree. A notification offers Meanwhile once an agent has been working for 40 seconds. A side quest gets the full card (Done, Park, Distracted, Break it down) with a "Back to … · when · Back now" strip on top, and however it ends, the agent's task comes back.
- **A calmer running card.** Done (✓) and Park (⏸, in amber) are icons; Meanwhile and Distracted keep their words. While a task runs, the popup is sized to the task and is no longer most of the screen.
- **Frontier parts on their own lines,** each with Start and Did it, and "Both" on the item itself.
- **Type:** titles and what you write are set in a Garamond-style serif, everything else in the system font, and the score in SF Pro Rounded. The boost button is a touch stronger.
1.6.6 2026-10-23
- **Meanwhile: do something else while Claude Code works, and get brought back when it's done.** When an agent has been working for a bit, a line offers "Meanwhile… ⌃⌥W". Pick a side quest from a short shelf (the one you left last time, goals you've marked **Side quest**, a frontier item) and go. When Claude Code finishes or needs you, Ratchet chimes, waits 20 seconds, and switches you back by itself, bringing the agent's window forward. You get one "1 more min". It's logged exactly as if you had done it by hand: the agent's task parked on task, the side quest started; then the side quest parked (or Done) and the agent's task picked up with what was left. No agent? "Back in 3/5/10/20 min" instead.
- **Connect Claude Code…** in the menu (once) lets Ratchet hear Claude Code finish. It works with every Claude Code on your Mac, any account, including a work account, and picks up new ones by itself. If your company's settings block it, Meanwhile uses timers and says so.
- **Frontier items can have parts.** Moisturize is new: feet and face (feet counts a little more). Do both in one go or one at a time; Done asks which you did, and each part takes back its own share.
1.6.5 2026-10-23
- **Pin up to two goals** at the top of the goal pickers ("Pick one of your goals" and "Part of"), in the menu bar and the popup alike. Hover a goal and tap its 📌. Pinned goals also come first as you type.
- **Parked on task partway?** The next time that goal starts, it runs what was left of the sitting, not the whole length again. Parked off task starts fresh.
- **Ratchet Pro, the groundwork:** ⋯ › Ratchet Pro… shows your plan and takes a licence key. Nothing is limited yet: every feature stays on for everyone.
1.6.4 2026-10-23
- Fixed: **Everything open** in a workspace could spin forever. Each source (Zen, browsers, app windows, Claude sessions, Logseq) is now listed on its own, so one that fails no longer blanks the rest. Slow apps get half a second each, and if your Mac still doesn't answer, the list says so after 25 seconds with **Try again**.
1.6.3 2026-10-23
- **Fixed: a Mac that lost its connection could overwrite another device's work.** After waking from sleep, a Mac's Ratchet could keep running on its own copy of the day. When it reconnected, that copy replaced what another device (a work laptop, say) had done live in the meantime. Now the cloud keeps what other devices did: an offline copy only adds what's missing. A device that was simply offline on its own still keeps everything it did. And a page that's out of touch keeps asking to rejoin instead of running on its own for hours.
- **Fixed: the modal can never trap you while a task is running.** Closing always works then. "Still on it?" is the one question that waits for an answer.
- **Zen sets itself up for workspaces.** No Terminal and no root: Ratchet installs what Zen needs while Zen is closed, and puts it back after a Zen update. If it needs you, it says so once: restart Zen, or allow Ratchet once under App Management in System Settings.
- **Sync now**, next to "Last synced": everything fresh from the cloud, now.
- **Update notices you can see without hunting:** a small dot on the menu bar icon and a quiet "Ratchet x is ready · Update… · Later" line. Never a window that pops up by itself.
- **Ran over?** A faint, optional "anything to learn?" link on a task that ran over, for a quick note on why. Skipping it is the default. A note goes on the goal with a small thanks (+2).
- "Not yet, still on task" now starts at 7 minutes (was 15).
- **Pass for now** on the modal's cards when deciding isn't forced. "Decided: keep it" is gone: it let you out of Force Decide.
1.6.2 2026-10-21
- **Set up in one line.** New to Ratchet? Open Terminal and paste the one line on the releases page. Sign in to Cloudflare in the browser window that opens (or sign up free), press Allow, and that's it. It gets Node.js if you don't have it, makes your workers.dev address if you don't have one, deploys your cloud, installs the app and signs it in. Nothing to paste. Everything it downloads is checked first.
- A copy of Ratchet that isn't connected to a cloud yet only offers setup. The old offline version is gone.
- **Friends on every device.** The work laptop has the same friends, synced.
- **A friend's day, drawn right in the Friends tab:** their score and verdict, what they're doing, and their day clock. No more page inside a page.
1.6.1 2026-10-20
- **Friends are sticky.** Remove no longer sits next to Honk. It's under **Friendship** at the bottom of a friend's page, and starting it needs their name typed. Even then they stay for 24 hours (marked ⏳, with **Keep them** one tap away) before they're gone. Nothing can remove a friend sooner: not a slip, not another device.
- Fixed: a repeating step inside a goal whose due date had passed came straight back to the cards every time you skipped it. Each next one was given its goal's (past) due date, so it was overdue the moment it was made. It now keeps the date its own repeat gives, and rests until a day before.
- Fixed: Return in **Break it down** did nothing once the minutes box was added. It adds the step again, from either field.
1.6.0 2026-10-20
**Mise en place: every goal gets a workspace.**
- **What you had open comes back.** When a session ends, Ratchet notes what you had open for that goal on that screen (this desktop, this Stage Manager stage): apps, windows, browser tabs, Cursor projects, notes. Start the goal again and it all comes back, with everything else hidden (never quit).
- **Its own window.** ⌃⌥R, the grid button in the menu bar, or a goal's ⋯ → Workspace… opens the workspace manager:
- **Down the side:** what you're on now, your ready workspaces (▶ opens one), and **Set up next**, goals worth preparing before you need them, Torque's picks first.
- **On the right:** the chosen goal, a big **Open workspace** button, and its things as tiles grouped by app.
- **Choose what opens.** Pick from **this screen**, **everything open** (every app's windows, browser tabs, Claude chats and Claude Code sessions, Terminal Claude sessions) or **a file or folder**. Tick to add, untick to remove. **Always** keeps an item for good; the rest is replaced by what you had open next time. Save with ⌘S, and the window offers the next goal to set up.
- **Never a second window.** Opening a workspace brings back the windows you already have. It doesn't open another window or another copy of an app.
- **Setting up counts, as MEP.** Minutes spent changing a workspace while nothing is running are logged as **Mise en place**: work, with its own colour on the day clock, the grid and the legend, instead of idle time. Only real changes count; just looking doesn't. A running task's minutes stay that task's.
- **Logseq, page by page.** Workspaces hold specific Logseq pages and blocks, not just "Logseq". Each one reopens exactly there, in the Logseq window you already have. The pages you worked on in a session are noted when it ends. "Everything open" lists each graph's recent pages, recent blocks and every page. (This works with Logseq's database graphs.)
- **On a work laptop too.** Workspaces, ⌃⌥R and the menu work there as well, for work goals; personal sessions are never noted on it. With two Macs on one clock, only the Mac you're actually using (touched in the last 2 minutes) notes or reopens anything.
- **Zen browser (optional):** a small helper (`tools/zen/install.sh`, run with Zen closed) gives each goal its own Zen Space. Saving moves its tabs into that Space. Opening switches to it with its tab showing, and minimizes Zen's other windows.
**Other changes**
- **Your rhythm, in the ⋯ menu:** pick your working hours and how often "Still on it?" checks in (every 10 minutes to every 2 hours, or never). "Rings on" is gone.
- **No more sound every minute.** The tick at each minute is gone for good, along with Mute Timer Sound. Questions and prompts still make their sound.
- **Minutes everywhere:** sizes, steps, goal progress and messages all say minutes; "intervals" is gone. **Break it down** takes a length.
- **Torque, decluttered:** one **Start here** suggestion says who it's for, why it's worth it, and a 5-minute warm-up to start cold. The rest is folded behind one ⋯ menu. Suggestions are grouped by goal, like your goal tree, and the report lives on your private Dashboard with buttons that work.
- **Park** sits next to Won't finish on the answer card (Not yet, set aside, on or off task).
- The menu bar opens on Now, with Frontier folded, Goals open, and no Torque line.
- **The Ratchet window no longer opens by itself.** Only the prompt that asks you something comes up on its own (a check-in, what you're doing now, a scheduled goal). Launching, saving a calendar event, coming back from Claude or a Wave ending no longer bring the window up.
- Fixed: a second shortcut (like ⌃⌥R) acted as the main one.
- The modal goes away the instant you start something, not a second or two later.
- No Torque line on the Now tab.
1.5.31 2026-10-18
**Torque listens now.**
- **Change direction…** in the Torque tab: say what changed ("career planning first; drop the side project"). Every open suggestion is cleared, your note goes at the top of your plan (under Direction) so every later brief follows it, and Torque re-plans right away.
- **Why not?** when you dismiss a suggestion: one tap for *not a priority now*, *too big*, *wrong timing*, *already doing it* or *don't agree*. Torque reads these and adapts.
- **Ignored suggestions retire.** One left undecided across two briefs or two days is cleared, and Torque counts it as a no instead of keeping it in your list.
- **Torque reads how you respond.** Every brief now sees which suggestions you accept, dismiss or ignore, which ones you accepted but never started, and how your work goes goal by goal (done, not yet, distracted, session length) and by hour. It has to name what's getting in the way and stop repeating what isn't landing.
- **Report:** a button in the Torque tab. Torque makes one visual page: today in order, your goals with pace and days left, what to make bigger, your trend, and what to cut. Its suggestions come with it to accept in one tap.
- The Ask box and the chat are gone from the Torque tab.
- **Torque for anyone:** it now ships inside Ratchet. Turn it on from the ⋯ menu; it runs on your Mac with your own Claude subscription (Claude Code). The setup README says how.
**Other changes**
- The **Job hunt** checkbox and labels are now **acc/career**. Past days score exactly as before.
- Fixed: when the cloud couldn't be reached, Done on the Mac could do nothing (the browser storage was full). The Mac now frees its rebuildable copies, or keeps working in memory, and never drops an answer.
- Fixed: reconnecting after a long time offline crashed the cloud (out of memory) on every try. A device far behind now gets one snapshot instead.
- Fixed: the private Dashboard reloaded itself all day, even when closed, and used up the cloud's daily reads. It now reloads only while on screen, at most every two minutes.
- Torque's buttons say when the cloud isn't answering, not that your internet is down.
1.5.30 2026-10-16
- Frontier: a commute session is 20 minutes (it was 2 hours), and ends by itself at 20.
1.5.29 2026-10-16
- Fixed: a done task in the day's list could show a big minus that had nothing to do with it. A Frontier item owed (today, the two new commutes, owed from the moment they were added) went on whatever task was running at that minute. Owed Frontier items now show only on the Frontier list. Your score itself didn't change: this only fixes which row the points were shown on.
- Fixed: a finish logged a few seconds into the next interval showed its points on the next task. It now shows on the task it finished.
1.5.28 2026-10-16
- Frontier: the commute, in and back, on weekdays (Morning and Evening on the card). Each owes 30 until done and pays 12 on top when done, so +42 for each one. Start it as a `COMMUTE:` session (up to 2 hours) or tap "Already did". It isn't owed on weekends, and a weekend commute pays nothing.
1.5.27 2026-10-16
- Mark a goal as job hunt after the fact: Goals list → ⋯ → "Mark as job hunt" (tap twice). Its parts come with it, and so does the work already done on them: those intervals count as job hunt, and the days they fell on are re-scored. "Not job hunt" undoes it the same way.
1.5.26 2026-10-16
- "Big goal" is now a checkbox where you type a new goal ("What's your next goal?"), not only in the New goal sheet. Tick it and the size field goes away (a big goal is sized by its parts), it asks for a due date, and Add puts it in. Add parts to it next.
1.5.25 2026-10-16
- A past day in the Dashboard opens with one click (no more double-click). Each day is a card: the pointer shows it's clickable, and it lifts with a shadow as you hover. Tab to one and press Enter to open it from the keyboard.
1.5.24 2026-10-16
- Fixed: double-clicking a past day in the Dashboard opened it at the top of the page while you were looking at the list, so it seemed to do nothing. The day now comes into view at once, lit briefly, and a double-click no longer selects the text.
- The Mac's Dashboard window loads the page fresh each time it's opened (it kept the version it first loaded until Ratchet restarted).
1.5.23 2026-10-16
- A goal finished on a day you didn't work on it pays its finish bonus to the last day you did (marking an old parked task done no longer raises today). Done says where it goes: "Done +0 · +14 to Sat". From today on: this afternoon's parked-task bonuses moved to the days those tasks were worked (totals unchanged).
1.5.22 2026-10-16
- Parked tasks, all in one place: the line under the score ("2 unanswered · 16 parked ›") opens every open goal you parked or put down as Not yet, however long ago, with Done (and its points), Start, or Let go. It used to leave parked ones out (parking counted as answered).
- Goal sizes stay on: the "Goal sizes" switch is gone from the ⋯ menu. A goal with no size starts as your usual sitting (with sizes on it fell to 1 minute).
1.5.21 2026-10-16
- A task pays its plan, not its minutes. Done early pays the whole planned length once you've worked a third of it (before that, up to three times what you worked, so a plan made long doesn't pay). Work past a goal's planned size pays nothing more (it used to pay a shrinking share, so dragging a task out still earned). The "Done now / at the end" preview says the same.
- Sessions not marked done, all in one place: "N unmarked ›" under the score (only when there are some) opens every unanswered session and every one put down as Not yet, with Done (and its points), Not yet, Still not done or Won't finish.
1.5.20 2026-10-16
- Fixed: a goal you gave a length (5 minutes) ran your usual sitting instead (25) when started from its card. A length you give is what it runs, goal sizes on or off.
- Finishing a big goal pays its share of all the work under it (20%), on top of what its parts' finishes paid: from 16:15 today.
1.5.19 2026-10-16
- Your Mac's Dashboard is yours now: every task by its name, work and private ones included. It was the public page, which shows those as "Focused work". The public link stays as it was for everyone else.
- Double-click a past day in the Dashboard's list to open it whole: its clock, every task, its score.
- Fixed: rebooking a goal while "Scheduled for now" held you on it didn't let go. A new time saved for it (or a part of it) is now the decision, as Park is, and the popup steps aside.
1.5.18 2026-10-16
- Fixed: Start (Do it now, Up next, or a goal picked in the box) refused with "its parts are already under way or waiting for their scheduled time" when the goal above was booked for later. Pressing Start is the decision: it starts anyway and says so ("“Activate COBRA insurance” was booked for 15:00: starting now anyway"). When something really is in the way, it says what.
1.5.17 2026-10-16
- Park asks, like Not yet: on task (it counts, its goal stays open) or off task (no credit since you last said "On it"), then sets it aside.
1.5.16 2026-10-16
- Fixed: Done's points matched what you got only when everything landed today. Held "Not yet" time (and a session from yesterday) raises the day it was worked, so the button now says both: "Done +11 · +29 to Thu". The preview also counted too little held time on goals with no size.
- A big goal worked on itself runs open-ended: "Big goal · 12 min in", counting up, no bar or interval count; it ends when you press Done or Park ("Still on it?" keeps asking). The Mac's menu bar shows "12m in". With parts, Do it now still starts its next part.
- A running session's due date shows the day when it isn't today ("due Thu 5 Nov, 1:08 pm", not "due 13:08").
1.5.15 2026-10-16
- Big goals: a goal too big to size takes its size from its parts (added up; parts not sized yet are counted, never guessed: "10+ int · 1 part unsized"). It can't run over, and it always has a due date. Make one from the goal sheet (Big goal) or a goal's ⋯ (Make it a big goal / Size it myself).
- Rename a goal from its card or its ⋯ to say what it really is. A rename is never progress: the card stays undecided, nothing is reset, every rename is kept, and Done soon after a rename asks twice.
- Finishing pays what it should (from today, 14:00; earlier finishes keep what they paid): a goal finished with real work pays at least about 15 on the 1000 scale, and a busy day no longer halves it to nothing (the daily cap now only applies to finishes with no work); a goal finished after its parts still pays.
- "Not yet" time on a goal with no size is paid (at half) when the goal is finished; it used to pay nothing, ever.
- The answer card's Done shows its points.
1.5.14 2026-10-16
- A finished session is answered on a card: three large choices, Done, Not yet · on task, Not yet · off task, each saying what it means, and "Won't finish" as a quiet link. In the dropdown they stack.
1.5.13 2026-10-16
- "Distracted" is now a kind of Not yet: a finished session's answers are Done, or Not yet · On task / Off task. Off task gets no credit for that stretch, and, like any Not yet, the task goes on: it asks how much longer, then starts again.
1.5.12 2026-10-15
- Days tab: a stretch's length stays on one line ("12h 25m"), the tiles show a true minus (−1534), and "avg day, last 7 days" fits its tile.
1.5.11 2026-10-15
- Fixed: switching Frontier's tabs in the popup folded it again.
- The boost line reads whole at any width ("4 boosts · back Mon"; the full date is in its tooltip).
- "Today in Google Calendar ↗" moved into the ⋯ menu, beside Today's schedule.
- The goal search sits under the GOALS heading it searches.
1.5.10 2026-10-14
- The popup's goal card is a stack: an edge under it for each goal still to decide, and "1 of 3" in its corner. The only way to the next is deciding on this one.
- The goal card is back down beside the box, not up beside the score.
- The score shows a true minus (−445), the boosts bar is quieter, and the goal card's details are chips.
1.5.9 2026-10-14
- Back to the popup of 1.5.7: the box and the goal card side by side (the switch of 1.5.8 is gone).
- No more "Start something for now, or move a goal forward, to put this away." The popup only says what puts it away when an answer is owed.
1.5.8 2026-10-14
- The popup shows one thing at a time: "Something new" (the box) or your goal card, with a large switch between them under the score (⌘1 / ⌘2). The card half names its goal and how many are waiting. It opens on the box, or on the card when you're being held to decide.
1.5.7 2026-10-14
- Frontier as tabs: Morning · Day · Evening · Anytime, each saying what it still owes (or ✓); the part of the day it is opens first.
- Typing in "By the end of this sitting": a + beside each goal you match makes what you type next a part of it, right there in the box.
- The box grows as you type a long goal, instead of scrolling out of sight.
- The popup's goal card starts level with the score, in the space beside it: a shorter popup.
1.5.6 2026-10-14
- The popup with nothing running: "What's your next goal?" is the one thing that reads first (bigger, outlined, cursor in it); Frontier folds to its line.
- Less flicker: the popup comes up unseen until it has drawn and sized itself, backdrop and card together; a card let go keeps its shape until it's put away; its size no longer bounces between two heights.
- Scheduling in Google Calendar yourself: the popup lets go and Safari comes forward (it grabbed you back a second later).
- Under the score, just the day: time done and untracked ("Today" and "goal bonus" are gone). Today's schedule is in the ⋯ menu.
- "Rings on" and "Working hours" moved from the bottom of the Now tab into the ⋯ menu.
- "Finished today" folds with the app's own chevron; the ✕ by Done / Not yet / Distracted is quiet, the way out rather than a fourth answer.
- The Days tab: no empty band under the dial; a stretch reads out in three lines.
- The new-goal sheet: only the name up front, the rest under "More options" (remembered); shorter placeholders, aligned fields, and the sheets' main button in the accent.
1.5.5 2026-10-14
- A goal's ⋯ menu closes when you click anywhere else (or press Escape).
- The goal you're working on can be folded like any other (a task starting opens its path once).
- The popup with one column (nothing to decide, or only a question) is centred.
1.5.4 2026-10-14
A calmer, clearer popup.
- The goal card's actions in labeled groups (Do · Shape · Hand off · Not now), with small line icons on the quieter ones. Do it now is the one filled button; Done is a soft green. ShopRite moved to the ⋯ menu.
- The popup shows only what can be acted on: "Still on it?" is the question alone (the task large, its time left); with an answer owed, the answer comes first and the boost and Torque's start suggestions wait; while you work, one card for the task, not two.
- Answering "Still on it?" puts the popup away at once, without flashing another layout first.
- A one-line boost bar; Frontier headers and rows aligned, "Did it" for done already; a quiet ↻ for repeating goals.
- Colors: every text and button passes contrast in light and dark, one color per meaning, all from named tokens.
1.5.3 2026-10-14
- The popup no longer comes up over a running task for no reason (a page out of date, or offline for a moment, said nothing was running): a task gone mid-session is believed only once it stays gone, unless you just pressed Done or Park.
- The popup's backdrop: up with the full-screen card at once, back as soon as you return from the browser or Claude, and on every screen.
- The full-screen popup fits what it shows: a small card when there's little, never over 80% of the screen, always centred.
- "Still on it?" can come every 15 minutes (checkin_minutes).
1.5.2 2026-10-14
- Fixed: Done on a session already marked not done (in "Not marked done") did nothing in the cloud. It marks it done now, and finishes its goal.
1.5.1 2026-10-14
- The dropdown's tabs fit its width: the dot without the name, Groceries as Shop, no sideways scroll.
- Fixed: right after an update, the Mac could keep the previous version's pages (no Friends tab) under the new version's number, and never fetch again.
1.5.0 2026-10-14
Repeating goals, due dates in plain words, and friends.
- Repeating goals: say how often in words ("every weekday at 9", "every other tuesday", "first monday of each month", "last day of the month", "every year on oct 20", "until dec 31", "for 10 times"). Set it in the popup's composer or the goal sheet (it's read back as you type), or with Repeat… on a goal. Finished or skipped, the next one comes, due when the rule says, and stays off the card until a day before.
- Due dates in plain words, everywhere: "fri 5pm", "tomorrow", "oct 20", "20/10 14:00", "in 3 days", "end of month", "next week". Due… on any goal changes it.
- Friends: send your friend link, paste theirs. Their clock, grid and points show in a Friends tab, with their scoring rules and Ratchet version, never a task's name. When their day is going badly late in the day, Honk 🪿 them. You can turn honks off.
- Fixed: a Mac that had been offline no longer wipes goals made elsewhere when it reconnects.
1.4.4 2026-10-14
- Fixed: an update failed with "Read-only file system" when Ratchet had been opened straight from where it was downloaded (macOS runs such an app from a read-only copy). It now installs into Applications and opens from there.
1.4.3 2026-10-14
- Fixed: updating on a work laptop tried to deploy a cloud it doesn't own, and failed. A work device now only updates its app.
1.4.2 2026-10-14
Nothing made on the work laptop is lost; you can see when it last synced.
- Fixed: on the work laptop, a goal or task made while the connection was coming back (a reconnect, a flaky network) could be dropped. It now waits and is sent as soon as the cloud is reachable.
- "Last synced" under the score, in the dropdown and the popup, with anything still waiting to send.
- Right-click the widget to switch it between Dark and Light.
1.4.1 2026-10-13
Distracted counts up to when you say so, and the work version has no job hunt.
- "Still on it?" answered Distracted: the distracted stretch runs up to your answer, not only up to when you were asked. A slow answer no longer earns work credit for the wait, and the next check-in is a full stretch on.
- The work version: no Job hunt checkbox anywhere, and job-hunt marks sent from it are ignored.
1.4.0 2026-10-12
Work and personal, kept apart on one score; boosts as a spree; Answer first.
- Work and personal: mark a top goal **Make work** and it (with everything inside it) is work. A work laptop set up as a work device sees only work goals; your personal time shows there only as "Personal", and Torque, Jaggi and Groceries aren't there. The score is one and the same on both.
- Work goals go on their own Google calendar, Ratchet-Work, and never show on the public dashboard.
- Boosts as a spree: 1.25× on your next task, rising 0.25× with each one done, up to 2.5×; a miss ends it. Never on not-work (SOCIAL, BIO, Frontier).
- Answer first: nothing new starts while a finished session waits on Done, Not yet or Distracted. Not yet asks how much longer, and starts it again for that long.
- Frontier: Done always counts, and Already did logs one without a session. The Frontier card folds.
- A scheduled goal holds the popup only while nothing runs; starting something else moves on from it.
- Popup: after a part is done, the card stays in its goal; adding a step closes the form; one Note field; On it steps aside.
- Boosts say exactly when they're back.
- No twin goals: the same words work on the same open goal.
1.3.0 2026-10-09
A new icon, fairer scoring, boosts you choose, and Torque in the popup.
- A new icon: a ratchet wheel and its pawl.
- Boosts you spend: 3 a week, plus one earned on a rough day (it arrives at an unpredictable moment). Using one gives 2× on Done work for your next 3 tasks. The popup and the menu always show what you have.
- Scheduled goals never start by themselves. When their time comes, the popup holds on their card until you press Do it now or Park; until then it's idle.
- "Not yet" no longer restarts a finished task, and only the newest unanswered session waits for an answer: no more pile of the same question.
- Park is in the popup too, as in the dropdown. A standing "Not marked done" section lists sessions you can still mark Done, or say Not yet to.
- Torque in the popup: ask what to do next or say how you feel; what it suggests comes up as the card on the right, ready to start.
- Days as a list (the default) or a grid, in the dropdown and on the dashboard, with the goals each task sits in.
- The dashboard shows its scoring rules (a code and plain tags), so two dashboards can be compared fairly.
- Frontier sessions that run out wait an hour for your answer before they count as missed.
- Saved in Google Calendar: you're back in the popup when you close the Google Calendar window.
- Right-click menu: Mute Timer Sound, Notifications on or off, and the version just above Quit.
- The widget: tighter, with the minutes in a small ring.
- A task added with a length keeps it, even with goal sizes off.
1.2.0 2026-10-08
New ways to plan from the popup, a grocery list on your phone, and a guided tour.
- A guided tour: the features, one card at a time, the first time you open Ratchet; after an update, only what's new. More › Take the tour shows it again.
- Schedule saves on its own: pick one of the open times and it's on your Google Calendar, without leaving the popup. "How long?" starts with the size you already gave the goal. Choosing the time in Google Calendar yourself still works, and the popup comes back only once the event is saved (Saved checks for it too), without flickering.
- Today: click Today under the score for the day's calendar, in the popup too.
- Distracted on the running task, with the free distractions left shown on the button: owns a lapse since you last said you were on it, and the task keeps running.
- Groceries: a list kept in Google Tasks (on your phone at the store), from the dropdown's Groceries tab or the popup's ShopRite button. Reconnect Google once to allow it.
- Donna: send a prompt to Claude from the popup (a new chat, or one of your Claude projects, added under More › Donna projects…) and book a short session to read the reply.
- /laundry: finishing a laundry goal books "Move to dryer" and "Bring back from dryer" about an hour apart, each at an open slot.
- Frontiering (off unless turned on): the daily basics, owed from 4 am and paid back with a little extra when done; the card folds the parts of the day not under way.
- Fairer points: Done on the card and Done after "Do it now" pay the same, and finishing early pays the plan, up to twice the time it took.
- The menu shows the version you're on.
